Centerville to host Memorial Day Service

n commemoration of Memorial Day, the City of Centerville is remembering those who have died in service to our country with a ceremony saluting the men and women who have helped protect, preserve and maintain our freedom. 

Scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, May 27, at the Veterans Memorial at Stubbs Park, 255 W. Spring Valley Road, the program includes color guard presentations from Centerville VFW Post 9550, Centerville Police and Washington Township Fire honor guards, and opening remarks from Centerville Mayor Brooks Compton.  

The keynote address will be given by Captain Matthew W. Hebert, Medical Service Corps, United States Navy Commanding Officer, Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton. Hebert assumed the role of Commanding Officer at Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton in August of 2018.   His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (six awards), Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards)  

Other program activities include readings by local students and musical performances by Centerville Community Band and the Centerville Community Chorus. Centerville area Boy and Girl Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.  

The public is encouraged to attend this tribute to the patriotic men and women who have shaped our country’s rich heritage.
